i heart faces: wedding bells

// June 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // our pictures

after seeing an entry on andrea’s blog [andreaworleyphotography] i decided to explore and see what the sight [i heart faces] is all about.

it’s a blog with weekly photo contests.  readers post entries on their own blog with a link back to the i heart faces site in order to enter.  each week a different guest photographer judge picks a winner.  how fun is that?!

so here is my entry for this week’s “wedding bells”  category (actually taken by nick):

there’s a whole series of pictures with alicia holding mariah, kissing her and looking at her, so it was hard to choose one, but i went with this one because of the expressions on everyone’s faces. she’s too cute and the bride and groom can’t get enough of her.

be sure to click on the link below to see the other wonderful entries. warning – it can be addicting!

dairy free?

// June 29th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Motherhood

mariah’s been a pretty gassy baby from the start.  within the first few weeks, she was having gas pains that made her scream and pump her legs like crazy.  we thought the culprit was peanut butter, so stopped eating it.  that was hard because that’s a quick and easy go-to for lunches.

things eased up for a bit, but while in italy it got really bad in the evenings and in the middle of the night and the spit up was out of control during the day!  it broke my heart to see her scream at night.  we burped her, pumped her legs and tried our best to soothe her.  we also spent our days mopping up what seemed like full feedings she’d returned to us.

i knew it had to be something in my diet, and the change in countries and eating habits had to be the culprit.  i was eating a TON of cheese, salami, chocolate and fresh greens all of which are said to be bad for gas.  when we returned home everything seemed to die down – but it didn’t last long.

i suspected dairy was the culprit as i kept reading it seems to be the case most often.  so i limited my dairy intake for a few days which seemed to help.  after having pizza for lunch the past two days, the spit up increased again.  but it could be just a coincidence.

i need to actually go dairy free for 2-4 weeks to get it completly out of my system and then try introducing it slowly to see what her reaction is.  *sigh* that’s so hard for me – i LOVE my milk and get my protein from cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese.

if dairy truly is the reason for the gas, it will be worth it. i mean i won’t be breastfeeding forever.  i can have my cheese all i want in nine months.  i’m going to limit the dairy as much as possible, but i don’t know if i can remove it completly – it could be a bit tricky. so here i go….updates to come.

celebration

// June 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // Photo of the Week, The Grays

i’ve finally gone through all of the pictures from alicia’s wedding and edited them.  we had over 700 to sort through!  but i’m pretty pleased with what we’ve got and looking forward to putting her album together once i have her other photos.

these were two of my favorites from the reception.  i love the expressions on their faces and how nick captured the moment.  alicia and neemias are back from their two week honeymoon around europe and back to the real world, but i’m sure they’re still celebrating being  newlyweds.

life is beautiful

// May 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Rachel, The Grays, Travel

as we were preparing, i knew i’d enjoy this vacation, but WOW!  we haven’t even been here 24 hours and i’m in love with life.  this morning i found myself asking nick when we were moving here.  traveling went so well and i love summer here in italy.

mariah wins the award for best behaved baby during our long flight.  she got a little fussy on the last leg/flight, but it was very short lived during our landing. i have now overcome my “fear” of nursing in public as i did it over the 24 hour period – even right  next to the man on the airplane.  mariah really is a natural born traveler and has been a little angel.  she only woke up one extra time in the night to eat so i think she’ll adapt to the time change pretty well.

we ate the freshest tortellini on the balcony last night.  it was hot and humid, but the breeze outside kept us just cool enough.  we could hear little italian children playing, watched a man back into his tiny garage and get out in a linen suit smoking his cigarette.  the food was delicious and i can’t get enough of the sights and sounds of italia.

because of the hot weather all of the windows and doors are open this morning to let the breeze come through.  this is the beautiful scene i had to capture in bed this morning.

now we can hear the children in the daycare across the street and i love watching the ladies hang their laundry from their balconies.  i might just be in love with balconies.

*sigh*  life truely is beautiful here.  i don’t know if i’ll be able to leave.  tomorrow we leave for our little exursion to switzerland and france.  will they be as beautiful?
