Rainy Wednesday

After a day of high winds and ominous rain clouds on the horizon, this morning we awoke to spring showers. Just light rain, but it makes me want to stay inside curled up with a book. With the sky being a little darker, the fresh green of the trees and grass seems more brilliant. The old phrase “April showers bring May flowers” isn’t completly the case here in Minnesota. I think we have more rain in May. I remember the year we got married, it rained so much I thought for sure I’d have a rainy wedding day. Thankfully it cleared up the night before.
The flowers are just starting to bloom now and I think this week the trees finally filled out. Because the winters are so long here, I find myself appreciating the spring even more than I did growing up in Virginia – and it was my favorite season as a child. I’ve noticed friends of mine from home posted photos on facebook with green grass months before it started changing here. But oh how sweet it is to see the green, even if it was a bit delayed in my opinion.
